Enterprising Schools

18 September 2008

Teachers from schools in Yeovil, Taunton, Sherborne and Shepton Mallet have been working together for the past year creating a number of enterprise activities to help embed enterprise into the curriculum.  Teachers have worked with local, national and international companies creating a series of enterprise activities involving students from all the schools.  Last year, the schools worked with Clarks Ltd on a market research task for Business Studies, others worked with Bishopston Trading Ltd in Glastonbury on an ethics projects for Geography and the Modern Foreign Languages departments at the schools worked with FlyBe at Exeter Airport.

The teachers from the Somerset Enterprise Hub designed a website which hosted all the activities which they had created.  The website has recently won ‘website of the month' by S'EEN (Schools Enterprise Education Network) for its case studies highlighting how to embed enterprise into the teaching of different subjects.  This is a fantastic achievement as there are currently 48 active enterprise websites belonging to schools from all over the country.  To visit the Somerset Enterprise Hub website, log on to http://www.somersetenterprisehub.co.uk/.

Teachers in the Somerset Enterprise Hub are currently working on a ‘Mini Enterprise' competition where students from all the schools will compete with one another to run their own company and to make the most profit.  They will be attending a trade fair during December and competing at the Business Awards Evening in Taunton, in July, where they will perform their presentation to a panel of judges
