Yeovil gets a lesson in going green

28 February 2008

At the Yeovil Supports Green Growth meeting on Tuesday, Emma Burlow from Envirowise gave a presentation about the opportunities and benefits to businesses of improved environmental performance especially with respect to their waste, water and other utilities.

Emma discussed the true cost of waste which is around five to 20 times the cost of disposal alone, this includes the hidden costs of labour, energy, time, lost sales and raw material costs are looked into.

Envirowise can help companies establish how much waste is costing their business and offer recommendations as to how to reduce it.

Waste costs are around four or five per cent of turnover and any savings in this figure go straight to the bottom line.  Increasingly, clients are asking companies to prove their environmental credentials.  Public sector organisations and larger companies often have environmental policies which now extend to their suppliers.

Customers are also becoming more aware and Envirowise receives a lot of enquiries from businesses who want to sell more by promoting their environmental performance, it is a very good marketing edge for any business.
