Rok Supports Beach clean up

23 July 2008

Local builder Rok has teamed up with the Jurassic Coast Trust to support the annual Chesil Beach summer clean up - and is appealing for volunteers to help on the day.

This summer's clean-up will focus on just the three beaches of Burton Bradstock, Cogden, and West Bexington from 2pm on Friday, 1 August 2008.

A team from Rok's Yeovil office and the Trust, together with families and friends, will be meeting at the Burton Bradstock, Cogden and West Bexington beach car parks3 and are calling on local people of all ages to come along and help out.

The beach clean will kick off with an introduction and briefing from the National Trust and Dorset Countryside coastpath rangers, after which each volunteer will be furnished with gloves and a rubbish bag and the litter picking will get underway.

Chesil beach stretches from Portland to West Bay and forms part of the Dorset and East Devon World Heritage Site, known as the Jurassic Coast4.

Nikki Greenleaf, executive officer of the Jurassic Coast Trust, says: "We are delighted that Rok is supporting the Jurassic Coast Trust in our first annual beach clean. We are deliberately starting small by covering only three beaches but hope to extend this to the whole of Chesil Beach next year, and within five years to cover the entire Jurassic Coast. No-one likes litter or debris on our beaches, and to protect and conserve this exceptional place for everyone to enjoy we are encouraging as many people as possible to come and join us on the day, and then celebrate by joining us for refreshments from 5pm at Cogden Beach"

Steve Bradley of Rok Yeovil, says: "We want to give communities the skills to conserve and protect the landscape they will eventually inherit, and supporting the Jurassic Coast Trust in cleaning up the beaches along the Jurassic Coast, is just our first step. We are looking forward to working with local communities on a number of the Trust's projects as more of our offices get involved."
