Working together for a better Somerset
Yeovil Chamber is proud to be hosting one of the first business engagement events with the newly formed Somerset Council.
We will be joined by guest speakers Cllr David Woan - Associate Lead Member, Economic Development and Inward Investment of Somerset Council, and Paul Hickson - Service Director for Economy, Employment and Planning at Somerset Council.
They will be providing an update on the new unified Somerset Council and how this will impact local businesses.
They will talk about how the new council will move forward working closely with the Chambers of Commerce, other business groups, and businesses and business owners. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and to discuss issues and concerns that you may have. Please note that these need to be business related from businesses.
Refreshments will be available and there will be an opportunity to network after the event.
About our speakers
Guest speaker Cllr David Woan
- David was born and raised in Yeovil and was a former aerospace engineer at Leonardo before becoming a professional investment manager in 2000. He was President of Yeovil Chamber of Commerce from 2015-2022 and a board director at Somerset Chamber of Commerce from 2019-2022. David sold his investment practice in 2020 and, since May 2022, has been a county councillor, first on Somerset County Council and will be on the new Somerset Council from April 1, with an Economic Development responsibility. He also sits on the HOTSW LEP board and the steering group for the Great South West levelling-up initiative.
Guest speaker Paul Hickson
- Paul is the Service Director for economy, employment and planning at Somerset Council and previous to the formation of the new council worked for Somerset County Council as the Strategic Manager for economy and planning. Paul has lived in Somerset for most of his life and shares the joys and anxieties of all who follow the fortunes of Somerset County Cricket Club.
