The Live Composite Structure: iSurface (Munro Technology Briefing)

Join us Wednesday 3rd July for a discussion led by Munro Technology – a public briefing on its revolutionary advanced composite structure ‘i Surface’.

The aviation net-zero emission targets for 2050 are driving fresh approaches to aircraft manufacturing, operation, and maintenance – to identify ways of reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.

Today, a high percentage of advanced composite materials are integrated into primary flight structures, becoming a key enabler of future electric aviation concepts including Urban Air Mobility (UAM) that rely heavily on lightweight structures to improving fuel efficiency, reducing emissions and lowering the manufacturing/operating/certification costs.

The iSurface project seeks to develop a radically new approach to Structural Health Monitoring of composite materials using a novel unintrusive technique, involving embedding a series of nanoscale fibres based on enTex capable of sensing the structural performance in real-time.

The project brings together Munro’s fibre technology, Z Prime, the electronics, data acquisition and AI partner, Axalp Technologies, the integrator end user supported by FHNW, the verification and validation RTO partner.

Why attend?

The briefing will take place between 12:00 and 14:30 at the iAero Innovation Centre in Yeovil, where you will be able to speak with consortium members about this revolutionary material and its applications.

This is a Somerset Innovation Network curated event. If your business is in the Aerospace, Advanced Engineering or Digital sector (or supplies these sectors) then this event is open to you as part of the Network. You do not have to be based in Somerset.

About Munro Technology

Established in 2007, South West-based Munro Technology has many years’ experience and a broad range of knowledge in materials science, engineering and mathematical modelling.

It provides consultancy on engineering design using Finite Element Analysis techniques to evaluate the optimum performance of structures in general engineering, automotive and aerospace applications with a bias towards advanced fibre reinforced composite materials.

How much does it cost?

This event is fully-funded through the Somerset Innovation Network – funded by Somerset Council.

What is the Somerset Innovation Network?

The Somerset Innovation Network is a fully-funded programme driving innovation and collaboration to forward-thinking, and growth-driven businesses in the region.

Bringing together three innovation centres in Somerset - iAero in Yeovil, Firepool Centre for Digital Innovation in Taunton and SEIC in Bridgwater, the network aims to encourage collaboration and innovation between businesses, whilst helping them grow and develop through a variety of tailored 1-2-1 support, informative workshops and networking opportunities.
